Thanksgiving Turkey

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup butter
  • 8 cloves minced garlic
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Sage

Instructions

Thaw Turkey

  • 24 hours for every 4 pounds.

Preparation

  • Remove turkey from fridge 2 hours before cooking.
  • Chop 1/2 of rosemary, thyme and sage.
  • Mix 1 cup butter, herbs and 8 cloves minced garlic.
  • Quarter red onion, lemon and apple.
  • Pat dry turkey.
  • Insert red onion, lemon, apple and 1/2 herbs into turkey.
  • Spread butter on turkey.
  • Wet inside and outside of paper bag with olive oil.
  • Place turkey in bag.
  • Place turkey breast side down in roasting pan.

Cooking

  • Roast at 325.
  • 13 minutes per pound (minus 30 minutes).
  • Open bag around 2/3 cooking time.
  • Rest for 30 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Target internal temperature 160 in breast and thigh.
